Governing Body Profiles

Andy Wright (Chair of Governors):
Andy Wright is a senior Head Teacher with extensive leadership and management experience in schools . He most recently led Lincoln Christ’s Hospital School, a comprehensive secondary school for students between the ages of 11 and 18. He brings a wealth of knowledge, understanding and experience to the table including significant familiarity with post-16 matters such as those relating to A-Levels, UCAS and specific post-16 pastoral matters. By virtue of his office he formerly served on his school’s Governing Body and also serves on the Governing Body of a local primary school. He also brings continuity of vision having been a key part of the Chapeltown Academy team in both pre-opening and in the application phase. 

Ashley Dexter (vice-chair of Governors): Ashley brings key financial and commercial experience to the Academy’s Governing Body. He currently co-owns a business consultancy and holds vast experience within the functions of commercial, sales, operational, financial and general management . Ashley is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants . He was formerly an Area Management Accountant, General Manager, Area Sales Manager and finally Global Account Director at DHL Express. In the first of these roles he prepared budget and forecasting documents and submitted various capital investment proposals. This skillset enables Ashley to provide strategic insight to the Academy’s budget, operations and policy. More recently he was the Finance and Commercial Director of Complete Entertainment Resources (an organisation with a £20m global turnover, which he was a member of from inception). There he was responsible for the implementation of the financial and management accounts (including the transition from manual to SAGE based accounting) as well as the company’s financial internal controls processes – again important for providing financial rigour and scrutiny to the Academy’s operations.  He also brings continuity to the process as a key member of the Chapeltown Academy team in pre-opening.

Stuart Murphy: Stuart runs a local manufacturing company, Rollem, and has managed various companies over a 36 year career.  He has an honours degree in Engineering from the University of Sheffield, an MBA from the University of Warwick, and is a senior Chartered Engineer.  In addition, he has served as a magistrate in Sheffield and brings extensive experience, having of being previously a governor at another Academy in Sheffield.  Stuart has extensive links with manufacturing throughout the Sheffield City Region and has a particular experience with apprenticeship programs.

Simon Ruston: Simon has been a stalwart in the local community for several years and has been involved in the set up of the school from its inception as one of the initial parents that formed the steering group and then the Temporary Governing Body. He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the team. 

Jack Joseph: Jack is now a senior civil servant having previously been a member of the original team that founded Chapeltown Academy. He was the Academy's Business Project Manager in pre-opening and then subsquently joined the Board of Governors.  

Tom Beaumont: A member of the initial steering group for Chapeltown Academy, Tom is now a senior member of the teaching staff at Babington Community College and provides extensive teaching and leadership experience to the Academy. He has also worked in finance briefly and has an intimate understanding of school budgets. 

 Rob Bridgewater: Rob Bridgewater joined the Governing Body in September 2016.  He is Curate at St John’s Church in Chapeltown, and as part of that he serves as Chaplain to Chapeltown Academy.  Before training for ministry in the Church of England, Rob worked with Pension Fund Trustees to assess and improve their operations and governance; he worked in the City for firms such as Mercer, KPMG, Bacon & Woodrow (now Aon), and most recently for Muse Advisory; Rob aims to use this experience to support Chapeltown Academy.  Each week, Rob goes into the Academy to meet with students and staff as part of the Academy’s stated vision to provide ‘a close-knit, considered pastoral support network within the framework of the Academy to assist and support the transition from GCSE to A-Level’. 

Richard Hoyland: 50 years old, married with 2 children,  one of which is Fran who is studying in the academy. I have worked in the gas industry all my working life (35 years this year), including working for British Gas and Transco for 25 of those years.I now run my own business in partnership with my eldest child Matt and have done so for the last 5 years, this involves gas work generally, but I also carry out gas related training and assessments for Certsure (NICEIC) up to ACS standard, and also undertake gas audits looking at other people's work. My hobbies are all things motorsport, Taekwondo and other family related activities.

(Interim) Head Teacher - Ali Jaffer is the Academy's Deputy Head Teacher and currently serving as the Academy's Acting Head Teacher to September 2017.

Governing Body Minutes 2015/2016

Please note the Governing Body of Chapeltown Academy adopted a single committee structure as a trial period for two meetings in late 2015. In this way all items ordinarily dealt with at sub-committees were dealt with at full GB level. This is reflectd in the minutes. At the end of 2015 the decision was taken to revert to a three-committee structure (Finance, Education and Full Governing Body) and subsequent minutes of the full GB will reflect this. Full GB minutes are published in accordance with statutory requirements.
