New £560,000 Chapeltown Academy extension opens

A North Sheffield Post-16 Education Provider has officially opened its engineering suite, following a substantial investment.

The current cohort of Engineering students joined guests on Tuesday afternoon to officially open the new suite at Chapeltown Academy.

Construction of the new suite, which includes a state-of-the-art engineering suite, classroom, computer room, and conference room started in May and it was opened to students in September 2022.

Speaking at the official opening ceremony, Headteacher Dayle Coe said: “The decision to extend into engineering is in direct response to local and national needs, it is believed that the UK needs around 37,000-59,000 skilled engineers for planned projects. This initiative is helping to provide sustainable jobs.”

“It will serve this community for many years to come and we are grateful to everyone who helped make this happen.”

Chief Executive Officer of Minerva Learning Trust Bev Matthews attended the ribbon-cutting event and she said,

“Today is a very special day for us and the young people of North Sheffield”

“The investment has created a fantastic new engineering suite equipped with modern and high-quality machinery which will go far in training our future skilled engineers. It has also created a suite of new classrooms, conference facilities, and an ICT suite which will enhance the already high-quality education on offer at Chapeltown Academy. This investment will ensure young people in the North of the City have access to high-quality Post-16 provision which is right on their doorstep.”

“Thank you to everyone who has spent their time to help make this project a reality.”

Chapeltown Academy is a member of Minerva Learning Trust, a family of Sheffield schools that are working together and learning together to be outstanding together.
