Headteacher’s Welcome to Chapeltown Academy
Chapeltown is a new purpose built Post 16 Academy, which provides A-level education with a personalised and caring ethos. We have the highest standards and expectations for all our students who join the Academy and all the staff have extensive experience in preparing them for entry in to the world’s leading universities, apprenticeships and careers. We are immensely proud of what our students have achieved over the last 4 years with a 100% pass rate and Value-Added Progress scores which puts us above the national average year after year. Please go see for yourselves! OFSTED said in 2018 ‘Students work very well together in a harmonious and close-knit learning community. They are confident and approach their learning with enthusiasm and commitment so that they can achieve their best.’
In 2020 the Academy joined the Minerva Learning Trust, which also includes two of our main feeder schools Ecclesfield and Stocksbridge. We also have applicants from all around Sheffield, Barnsley and Rotherham and several from overseas! Joining the Trust has meant that we can prosper and move forward in a collaborative way and share best practice, resources and expertise. The small family we have here is now part of a bigger broader family of schools, with their rich talent of students and staff.
We have an academically-focused curriculum but also cater for students who want to take BTech Level courses in Engineering and Health & Social Care; this enhances our offer for the local community. The atmosphere and environment are specifically designed to promote highest level of achievement through intellectual challenge, outstanding pastoral care and both focused and rigorous exam preparation. Our supportive UCAS programmes and strong university links in the UK and beyond, help students achieve their academic and career aspirations with 36% frequently attending Russell Group Universities.
Our Mission Vision and Values really focus on personalised pastoral care, support and guidance which have helped our young adults to thrive in a caring and warm community atmosphere. We know from student and parent voice that this has really helped our students to thrive academically and emotionally in a safe and supportive environment. Please see our student voice views!
We also strongly believe that attainment at A-level is improved and complemented by extra-curricular success and so we offer an extensive enrichment programme which allows students to develop as artists, linguists, musicians, computer programmers, debaters, sports people, volunteers, filmmakers, adventurers and entrepreneurs! We have also run many trips abroad and in the UK with destinations ranging from Vienna to Toronto to Budapest.
As the Headteacher I am passionately committed to the welfare, progress and well-being of all our students at Chapeltown Academy and believe we provide opportunities for students to explore and challenge themselves in order to achieve their full potential. The support of dedicated and determined staff makes the experience for the students the perfect platform on which to build their lives and careers. Students’ life chances are at the heart of everything we do.
